After falling asleep to the sounds of loons and owls communicating last night, Sasha and I awoke to find the sun streaming down on our humble campsite. Our lovely neighbor, a travel nurse who was smoking what I’d like to assume was medical marijuana at 9 am, bid us farewell and wished us well on our adventures. From there, we packed up our area and hit the local Dunkin Donuts for our daily coffee fix. After a fairly chilly night, the sun was welcomed as we drove to the trailhead of our hike for today. We arrived at the Pleasant Mountain - Bald Peak Trailhead eager to begin our adventure for the day. Our spirits were soon beaten down by the steep incline we faced for the first 1.5 miles of the trail on the way to the summit. Nevertheless, some good music and beautiful scenery got us through and we were welcomed at the top by some breathtaking views stretching all the way to New Hampshire’s mountain ranges. We descended the mountain with more ease than we had climbing it, although the steep parts of the trail were no friend to our knees. Me being me, I did take a little fall a short way before we reached the car at the end of our 5-mile hike, but someone had to take one for the team.Tired, yet feeling accomplished, Sasha and I rewarded ourselves with a much-needed dip at Moose Pond Beach, where we ate some delicious cheese and crackers and washed the dirt and, for me, the blood off our legs (don’t worry, mom, I’m fine). And even though Sasha and I have yet to find any blueberries, mostly because they’re out of season, our past couple of days here in Maine have certainly been memorable. And it’s only going to get better as we spend our night in the local Walmart, parked next to the garden center where we can hear Today’s Top Hits playing on the outdoor speakers… I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings!
