Sunday Reflection :)

 Date: 5/15. Time: 16:45.
 This past week has certainly been an experience, with Sasha and I going to Maine and then deciding to change the theme of our book. Overall it was a good week and I’m happy with what Sasha and I have accomplished. The main thing we did was go camping in Maine, which was certainly a fun and enjoyable experience, even though we basically lived like we were homeless for three days. Yet that trip also taught us that blueberries are just not a realistic thing to be looking into right now since they are very much out of season. Looking back to when Sasha and I came up with the idea for this project, I realize that blueberries were in season then, and us not thinking ahead, just assumed that they would somehow survive the cold killing season of winter to stay in season this May. Nevertheless, I believe everything happens for a reason, and I can safely say that I’m even more excited about our new idea than I was with the one before. I really enjoyed the hikes that we went on and the views that they offered and I’m happy with our senior project because it allows us to be both active and creative and I think it’s a fun way to end my time at Proctor! I’d say the most memorable thing we did was sleep in the car in a Walmart parking lot while in Maine because it really wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, although I can’t say that I’m looking to do it again anytime soon either. Overall I think the Maine trip was a good use of our time to get the ball rolling on our senior project and the days afterward were great to really solidify our ideas and set a good baseline for meeting our goal of making a children’s book. I think that this past week sets Sasha and me up really well for the next week because we have a couple more day trips planned and also some days dedicated to making our book. All in all, Sasha and I have been having a ton of fun together and I feel like we have a good handle on our project!

Date: 5/12. Time: 21:08.  Waking up to the soothing sounds of engines revving and shopping cart wheels squeaking, Sasha and I started our day in good spirits. Per tradition, we hit the local coffee shop, in this case, Starbucks, and got our morning fix of caffeine in our systems. Fueled with espresso, we drove to the Bri-Mar Trailhead on Rattlesnake Mountain and began another hike. Calves sore and burning, Sasha and I trekked up yet another steep trail to reach some gorgeous views of the local lakes and forests. Although shorter than yesterday’s hike, at some point along the way Sasha and I ended up taking a wrong turn on the trail, taking us a good ways off the trail until we reached a road that convinced us that we had indeed been going the wrong way for a while. Nevertheless, we persisted, and thanks to AllTrails, found our rightful path to end up back at the car. Sweaty, and smelling like a pair of wild animals we began our journey back home, and thankfully arrived in one piece...

Blog #2 !

Date: 5/10. Time: 20:35. Today Sasha and I left for Maine! We traveled for a couple hours before visiting our first stop, Pleasant View Blueberry Farm, where we saw rows of out-of-season blueberry bushes! Nevertheless, we had a brief conversation with the farmer who was out in the field and discussed what he does during the off-season. We also stopped at Crabtree’s Blueberry Farm and had a similar experience except for the fact that the farmer was far off on his tractor so we couldn’t reach him. After spending a large part of our day doing that, we reached the KOA in Naples, Maine, where we’re staying for the night, and checked in. Like the experts we are, we efficiently set up our tent and had a celebratory snack of cheese and crackers afterward. With some of the afternoon left, we ventured over to the local state park and frolicked around in search of blueberries for some time. Date: 5/17. Time: 20:06.  Today was quite the day for Sasha and me. This morning we decided to hike Mount Kearsarge… with Atlas. Luckily for us, the trail is pretty easy, not very steep, and simple to follow because the rest of the events taking place on our hike were taxing enough. Our first ordeal occurred on the way to the summit when we encountered another group of hikers with a dog. And, Atlas still being a puppy, gets very excited around other dogs. Yet unfortunately for us, and especially for Sasha, Atlas probably has the considerable strength of both of us combined and a bark so deep and authoritative that it could knock the socks off any man. So there we are, at a crossroads with this group of innocent hikers and their tiny dog, Sasha’s white-knuckling Atlas’s leash in a stance that keeps all her weight back, trying to prevent him from lunging towards this quivering dog being carried off the ground by its harness.
